Does Cholesterol in Eggs Harm My Health?

Millions think that cholesterol is bad. They think it is a villain when it comes to health. How did this myth get started and is it true? Is cholesterol bad? Are eggs bad?

The Truth About Cholesterol & Eggs

Cholesterol is found in all humans and all animals. It is found it eggs. Cholesterol is in humans and animals because it is necessary for digestion, hormone production, vitamin D manufacturing, and cell membrane integrity and function.

In short, cholesterol is a molecule we CANNOT live without.

Is Eating Cholesterol Foods Bad?

Cholesterol is in all animal foods including eggs and dairy. Eggs are a cocoon for a baby chicken containing all the nutrients a chicken needs to come to life.

Try raising a chicken on oatmeal. You (and the chicken) won’t get very far.

Cholesterol in eggs and other foods help make HDL particles. HDL helps patrol the body as an anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory. HDL pulls cholesterol from plaque and brings it back to the liver for processing.

Again, eggs boost that function.

Cholesterol from food does not have much effect on cholesterol production. Your body makes cholesterol for a reason. The body does not malfunction or make mistakes. The body only reacts to its environment.

Cholesterol is so important, I dedicated the first chapter in my book to discussing its value.

Nutrition and eating eggs are so important, I discuss in Chapters 3 and 4 in The Paleo Cardiologist, The Natural Way to Heart Health.

How to Eat Eggs

First, you must source the best quality eggs. Find a local farmer or better yet, get your own backyard chickens. Choose pasture-raised and organic options.

Second, the less you cook the eggs, the better. I add raw egg to smoothies, soft boil, or cook over-easy in ghee, coconut oil, or animal fat.

Third, add plenty of spices to the eggs including turmeric, thyme, rosemary, cumin, and oregano. The more spices and herbs, the better.

Finally, eat your eggs with avocado and other greens like spinach, arugula and dandelion.

Cholesterol in Eggs is Heart Healthy.

Enjoy.
